Planking, aka the lying down game, is a popular activity in various parts of the world. It consists of lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location. The hands must touch the sides of the body, and having a photograph of the participant taken and posted on the Internet is an integral part of the game.
It first became all the rage in England but has recently become an equally huge fad in America. A trending topic on Twitter for weeks, people have been posting images of themselves in full planking mode.
Doctors and nurses at one medical facility were suspended when they planked on the job and posted the picture. There have also been several reported arrests for planking on police cars or splayed out on famous statues.
Celebrities are into planking and even New Zealand Prime Minister John Key and his son Max uploaded a planking pic to Facebook.
