U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner admitted Monday that he lied about posting an explicit photo of himself, wearing only grey boxer briefs, to a 21-year-old Seattle female via his personal Twitter account.

The revelations came several days after he flatly denied publicly ‘tweeting’ the bare-chested pic to a college-age woman, insisting instead that his account had been “hacked.” He slipped up, however, when he failed to answer two basic questions: was the photo really him, and why didn’t he ask authorities to investigate the matter?

In a news conference, the 46-year-old politician chocked up as he offered an apology to Huma Abedin, his wife of one year. She serves as a close aide to Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. The attractive political A-lister traveled with Clinton and served as her “body woman” during the 2008 presidential campaign.

The Washington insider married Rep. Weiner on July 10, 2010. The wedding ceremony was presided over by former President Bill Clinton.

Abedin is a practicing Muslim and Arabic speaker. She is said to be brilliant as well as stunningly beautiful, as evidenced by her 2007 Vogue photo shoot.

Will Huma follow in her bosses footsteps and stand by her man?

The seven-term congressman blew the top off the scandal yesterday: “The picture was of me, and I sent it.” He characterized his actions as “a very dumb thing to do” and “a hugely regrettable and destructive mistake.”

Rep. Weiner has since acknowledged that he had inappropriate online and phone relationships with six additional women.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi announced there would be an investigation by the House Ethics Committee as to “whether any official resources were used or any other violations of House rules occurred.”

Another victim, Meagan Broussard, is a single mother of a 3-year-old daughter. The Texas 26-year-old acknowledges she shared flirtatious photos online with Rep. Weiner, who then sent her a photo of his exposed private parts.

Broussard told a reporter: “I thought I could just be private about it, but there’s no reason for me to hide. I didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t know him. I’m just putting my story out there before anyone else tries to.”
