Grammy nominee Adele is speaking out just days after fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld called her “fat” during an interview in the Paris newspaper Metro.

The German fashion designer called her “a little bit fat” and then made nice with “but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.”

He was shocked at the swift backlash and has since tried to repair the damage: “I’d like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance. Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best.”

Adele had this to say about the dust up: “I’ve never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines. I represent the majority of women, and I’m very proud of that.”

The talented 23-year-old English singer and songwriter will make her live comeback at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards Sunday night, her first performance since undergoing throat surgery in late 2011. She has been nominated in six high-profile categories for her latest album 21.
