Elton John was scheduled to perform at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas Friday and Saturday nights, February 17-18, but had to cancel due to food poisoning.
Elton fell ill on Friday, and cancelled both weekend concerts, apologizing on his official website to ticketholders for the inconvenience caused.
Elton’s management team refuted rumors that he attended Whitney Houston‘s funeral on Saturday, saying, “This is completely untrue. The only reason Elton did not play his concerts over the weekend is because he was too ill.”
He’s doing “much better now,” according to his rep, and is forging ahead to his next concert later this week in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Elton paid tribute to Whitney Houston during his Vegas show Sunday, February 12, dedicating “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” to the late songstress.
“All I want to talk about is her music,” Elton told the audience. “You forget, with all the troubles that she went through, how incredibly brilliant this woman was. She could sing Porgy and Bess, she could sing gospel, she could sing I Will Always Love You and make you cry, and she was the most beautiful woman I think I’ve ever seen. She was incredible. So, my dearest, gorgeous, lovely angel, we want to do this song for you. Thank you for giving us your talent and one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard in my life.”

I would like to comment to the insensitive person that said it wasnt a big deal that Elton John cancelled his 2 concerts in Las Vegas. I was one of the unfortunate ticket holders. I saved and saved to purchase these tickets, airfare and hotel accommendations. I was very disappointed to find out when I flew into Las Vegas on Friday to hear that his concert was cancelled and I then became concerned about my tickets on Saturday would be cancelled as well. I ONLY flew to Vegas to see Elton John!!! The news reports and entertainment channels were stating that Elton John would be attending Whitney Houstons funeral. I understand! I haven’t stopped crying about the loss of her. I thought surely if Elton were to cancel he would have let us know before hand. I was wrong. I’m upset that whom ever decided not to let everyone know that he was attending the funeral (as the media stated he was) was not respectful of the ticket holders. I WOULD NOT HAVE FLOWN TO LAS VEGAS and wasted over $1500. in flight, hotel and food. I completely understand cancelling for Whitney’s funeral BUT the media knew, sooo…..the right thing would have let ticket holders know before we flew from all over the place to attend a concert that was known wasn’t going to happen. I spoke with many others while at Cesaers Palace and they were just as disgusted.
Disappointed in New Mexico
