George Clooney and Nick Clooney were arrested by the U.S. Secret Service in Washington D.C. this morning. Father and son were cuffed and stuffed after crossing a police line.

The high-profile actor was leading a protest in front of the Sudanese Embassy when agents placed Flex-Cuf restraints on Clooney and a dozen others and hauled them away in a police paddy wagon after they were warned three times to leave the area.

The group, which included several congressmen, human rights activists and faith leaders, was transported to a D.C. police station where they were booked on a misdemeanor offense.

Clooney’s arrest comes one day after he met with President Obama to discuss his concerns about Sudan.

Clooney’s publicist Stan Rosenfield released this statement: “They were protesting the violence committed by the government of Sudan on its own innocent men, women and children. They were demanding they allow humanitarian aid into the country before it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world.”

The actor recently shot a short documentary that was released to EnoughProject.org, an effort to bring the plight in Sudan to the forefront.
