Katy Perry is about to venture into new territory with the launch of her own record label.

The as-yet-unnamed imprint will put her in the same league as artists Madonna and Prince who both went that route in order to distribute their own material and lure other artists to their label.

Perry has been with EMI’s Capitol Records in 2007, with 11 top 10 singles and 9 million albums sold.

The pop star talked to The Hollywood Reporter about the new venture, “I’m preparing for it now. And when this record label does come to fruition, I’m going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success. As people are coming to me with opportunities, I’m thinking, ‘How would I want to be treated?'”

Her 3D film, ‘Katy Perry: Part of Me’ hits theaters on July 5, 2012. The documentary-concert film covers her climb as gospel singer Katy Hudson to becoming one of the top musicians on the planet.
