Word coming out of Hollywood suggests that 'American Idol' season eight runner-up Adam Lambert is in the running to join the judging panel for season twelve.
Does that mean that Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson or Jennifer Lopez will not be invited back to judge the popular FOX show? Not necessarily.
It seems more likely that producer Nigel Lythgoe is hedging his bets in case negotiations break down with one of his current judges. J-Lo, in particular, has suggested that she might not be able to work it into her schedule.
If we had to guess which of the three might not return we'd put our money on Tyler, who seemed a little out of sorts for most of the last season of competition. He just didn't look like he was enjoying the experience.
When asked about the latest rumors, Lythgoe responded, "As of this moment in time, we are still in negotiations... Everything is up in the air."
Attempting to divert the conversation, the producer reminded the questioner, "It's not about the judges, it's all about young talent."
Lambert's career has surpassed that of 2009 Idol winner Kris Allen. His album 'Trespassing' hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in May and he performed onstage with Queen at the end of June.
One job not up for grabs is that of host Ryan Seacrest, who locked two more seasons in April.
