Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer of ‘American Idol,’ is telling anyone within earshot that he would like to see either Charlie Sheen or Jerry Lewis as one of the judges for season 12.

This appears to be nothing more than a bizarre joke but what the hell … it has Charlie talking.

TMZ ran into the actor and asked if he would be willing to pull up a seat on the hit show and it turns out he is 100% on board with that idea.

The former ‘Two and a Half Men’ celeb said, “If the numbers move the needle AND ‘Idol’ matches 20% of my weekly salary for Autism Speaks, JDRF, and the Boys and Girls Club … then the hell with it. As we say, pour the smoke.”

Charlie’s new show ‘Anger Management’ started out strong but has since seen a worrisome 40 percent drop the week after back to back premiere episodes. As for 86-year-old Jerry Lewis … sorry Nigel but that suggestion is really off the rails.

That said, a bonafide short-lister is former ‘Idol’ runner-up Adam Lambert, who might be a perfect replacement if Steven Tyler opts out.
