One Direction's Zayn Malik deleted his Twitter account on Tuesday, citing haters as the reason for his decision.
"The reason i don't tweet as much as i use to, is because I'm sick of all the useless opinions and hate that i get daily goodbye twitter,' he posted to his nearly 5 million followers. "My fans that have something nice to say can tweet me on the one direction account, x."
There is speculation that Malik quit Twitter after his girlfriend Perrie Edwards from the band Little Mix received death threats, forcing her to leave the social networking site.
Zayn, 19, and Perrie, 18, met on the UK's X-Factor in November, 2011, while competing on the show before One Direction burst onto the pop scene.
"Let us all observe a minute's silence to pay our respects to Zayn Malik's Twitter account. @onedirection," X Factor UK tweeted.
Many fans were upset about the One Direction singer's departure, tweeting their support, prompting the trending of #ComeBackZayn and #ZaynComeBack.
Will he come back? Well, he certainly isn't the first celebrity to deactivate their Twitter account. Only time will tell.
