The unthinkable happened Friday morning at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
A lone gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, killed his mother Nancy Lanza at her home and then drove to the school where he forced his way into the building and killed 20 children, six adults and himself.
Police continued to scour the crime scene Saturday, looking into each car in the parking lot in what Lt. J. Paul Vance of the state police called a "long and painstaking process."
President Obama wiped away tears Friday afternoon as he told the nation, "They had their entire lives ahead of them: birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own."
Investigators have removed all of the bodies from the school and they have been identified by the state medical examiner. The names are expected to be released later today.
