Instead of their normal comedic opening on ‘Saturday Night Live’ over the weekend, the show featured the New York City Children’s Chorus dressed in red robes as they sang ‘Silent Night’ that ended with the poignant refrain, “Sleep in heavenly peace.”

The gesture was the only reference to the Connecticut school tragedy but it set the right tone before the kids shouted the timed honored kick off introduction, “Live from New York, it’s ‘Saturday Night!”

Later the chorus joined Paul McCartney in a rendition of ‘Wonderful Christmas Time.’
