David Beckham soccer

Professional soccer player David Beckham is heading to France.  The former Los Angeles Galaxy star fielded 12 offers from soccer clubs around the world and has signed with the Paris Saint-Germain team.

Beckham, 37, was introduced at a press conference at Parc des Princes stadium this morning after signing a five-month deal.  He plans to turn over his multi-million dollar salary to a children’s charity.

He told reporters, “I consider myself to be part of this club…in helping the French league to grow and also helping this club to be one of the biggest powerhouses in football.”

The pro athlete acknowledged that Victoria Beckham and their four kids won’t be joining the soccer star full time in Paris, “My wife and children will be staying in London because the children are in school there.”

Victoria released a statement: “Incredibly proud and supportive of David. And we are excited about spending some time as a family in Paris over the coming weeks. We are passionate about supporting children’s charities and donating to a local children’s charity in Paris is something we are delighted to do.”

Caleb Moore died

X Games professional snowmobile racer Caleb Moore, 26, died this morning in Aspen of injuries suffered during a crash last week while attempting a backflip.

Caleb, a four-time X Games medalist, was on his 450-pound snowmobile last Thursday in the freestyle finals when he went over the handlebars and his sled flipped over on top of him.

The racer was able to leave the scene under his own power but his condition deteriorated at an area hospital.   He underwent emergency surgery for treatment of brain complications related to a concussion and bleeding around his heart.  Moore remained in critical condition until his death.

ESPN released this statement, “We’ve worked closely on safety issues with athletes, course designers and other experts for each of the 18 years of X Games. Still, when the world’s best compete at the highest level in any sport, risks remain.”

Beyonce sings LIVE

In an effort to clear the air prior to her Super Bowl Halftime extravaganza on Sunday, Feb. 3, Beyonce sang a live rendition of ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ at a New Orleans news conference Thursday.

After asking the assembled reporters and photographers to stand, she belted out a flawless performance of the National Anthem.

She acknowledged afterward, “I am a perfectionist.  One thing about me, I practice until my feet bleed.  I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra.  It was a live television show.  It was a very important emotional show for me, one of my proudest moments.”

“Due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk.  It was about the President, the inauguration.  I wanted to make him and my country proud, so I decided to sing along to my pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry.”

She added as reporters applauded, “I’m very proud of my performance.”

Regarding her upcoming performance … it will not be pre-recorded.  She said emphatically, “I will absolutely be singing live.  That is what I was born to do.”

Kate Upton blows soap bubbles

Super Bowl advertisers intentionally target the male population by featuring attractive women in their commercials.  This year Mercedes-Benz has chosen supermodel Kate Upton to help wash one of their luxury rides.

She approaches a group of football players who are raising money for the team by cleaning cars.  The 1:30 ad spot uses slow motion head-to-toe panning of the sexy model, who is sporting cut-offs and a decidedly low-cut black tank top.

The teens can’t keep their eyes off of Upton as she blows a handful of soap bubbles toward the group.  While sashaying around the new Mercedes CLA she purrs, “You missed a spot.”

Does it make you want to buy a new Mercedes?
