After just one decidedly understated season as a celebrity judge on the Fox reality competition 'The X Factor,' Britney Spears has confirmed that she will not be returning.
The pop star released a statement on Friday, "I've made the very difficult decision not to return for another season. I had an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges and I am so proud of my teens but it's time for me to get back in the studio. Watching them all do their thing up on that stage every week made me miss performing so much!"
She ended by saying, "I can't wait to get back out there and do what I love most."
Show creator Simon Cowell gambled when he signed Spears to a $15 million deal, hoping to appeal to a wider viewer base. Unfortunately Brit wasn't able to muster the required level of enthusiasm during her one season stint and it didn't take execs long to decide it had been a very bad decision indeed.
Don't feel bad for Britney because her empire is secure. She earned a bundle in 2012, more than any other woman in music with an impressive $58 million from the proceeds of her successful album 'Femme Fatale,' product endorsements, her signature perfume line and the hefty payday for the short-lived X-Factor gig.
