Danica Patrick became the first woman to win pole position at the Daytona 500, a feat she pulled off in qualifying Sunday, Feb. 17.
She beat out Jeff Gordon with a speed of 196.434 mph. The three-time Daytona 500 champion talked a little smack while acknowledging the achievement of the Go Daddy racer, “Congratulations to Danica. I can say I was part of history. I can say I was the fastest guy today.”
Danica said, “I think when pressure’s on and when the spotlight’s on, it ends up becoming some of my better moments and my better races and better results. I don’t know why that is. I’m grateful for it. Thanks mom and dad for the genetics.”
The 2013 Daytona 500 kicks off on Feb. 24 at Daytona International Speedway, the 55th running of the high profile event.
Racing’s most successful woman appeared last summer in a Miranda Lambert music video for her single ‘Fastest Girl in Town.’
In the video the pair scheme to steal a car and guess who ends up in the driver’s seat?
‘Fastest Girl In Town’ …. indeed! Check it out below:
