After 16 seasons of co-hosting ABC’s ‘The View’, Joy Behar has decided it is time to move on to other opportunities.

The 70-year-old comedian told the network that she is moving on after her contract is up in August, 2013.

Joy would like to spend more time on the play she is writing and she wants to devote more time to the stand-up career that has taken a backseat during her long running stint on morning television.

Behar and Barbara Walter were co-hosts when the show kicked off in 1997. She has enjoyed the ride and credits Barbara for keeping ‘The View’ a smart show. With Joy’s departure, Walter, 83, will be the only remaining original member of the panel.

Joy married her longtime boyfriend Steve Janowitz in 2011, after years of making jokes on-air about why they would never wed.

The comic is in her second year of ‘Joy Behar: Say Anything!’ on Current TV.
