‘Glee’ star Cory Monteith has check into rehab for substance abuse. The actor plays Finn Hudson on the popular Fox series.

His rep confirmed the news with PEOPLE, “He has voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment facility for substance addiction. He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery.”

Cory, 30, has struggled and been open about his past issues with drugs. In 2011 he admitted in an interview that he had gone to treatment when he was 19.

At the time of his 2011 rehab stint he said he hoped that talking about his situation would help others with addiction issues.

“I don’t want kids to think it’s okay to drop out of school and get high, and they’ll be famous actors, too. But for those people who might give up: Get real about what you want and go after it.”

Monteith dates ‘Glee’ co-star Lea Michele. The actress released a statement indicating she is proud of his decision and intends to “stand by him through this.”
