After living separately for several years, Courteney Cox and David Arquette are now officially divorced.

The final judgement ending their 12-year union took place on May 28 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Cox, 48, and Arquette, 41, announced that they were living apart in October 2010 but they coasted along until June 2012 before filing for the dissolution of their marriage. They will share joint legal and physical custody of their 8-year-old daughter Coco.

During an initial announcement of their separation, Courteney said, “I don’t know what will happen, but this is not like we’re getting divorced. This is a separation and I think that takes a lot of courage. Whatever is supposed to happen will be the best thing for us. Sometimes you just realize, ‘Wow, we actually have grown apart.'”

Two months after the split, David checked into rehab for treatment of “alcohol and other issues,” in what many saw as an attempt at a marital reconciliation.

The couple have remained friends throughout their separation of the sake of their child. During the 13th season of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ in Nov. 2011, Courteney and Coco showed up each week in the audience to cheer for David. He finished sixth in the competition.

Arquette has moved on and has been in a relationship with ‘OMG! Insider’ correspondent Christina McLarty for the past year.
