Jenny MCCarthy will be joining the ladies of The View as co-host when the show returns on September 9 for its 17th season.
The announcement comes as Joy Behar prepares to leave, and less than a week after Elisabeth Hasslebeck co-hosted her last episode of the talk show.
McCarthy confirmed the news Monday on her blog, with a post titled, "YUP, I'M DOING 'THE VIEW'!"
From Jenny McCarthy's blog: "When word got out that Joy was leaving “The View,” I knew that the timing of my desire and her departure might be serendipitous for me. Fortunately, the executives at Vh1 also knew these opportunities don’t happen that often, and they allowed me to make the move with their loving support. It’s proof that I was working with some amazing people over there, and I will continue to do more with them — outside of talk — in the future.
Now, I look forward to working with my amazing new partners at ABC. I start co-hosting “The View” on September 9th. I can’t tell you how excited I am for the opportunity to work with Barbara, Whoopi and Sherri. I will be doing everything I can to provoke conversation, make you think, make you laugh and maybe even spill the beans on what goes on backstage (like if I accidentally barge into Bradley Cooper’s dressing room in a towel).
I might be moving from late night to daytime, but I’m just as fun with a mimosa as I am with a martini. I look forward to spiking your morning coffee on “The View” for years to come."
Show host and co-executive producer Barbara Walters released a statement, saying, "Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor. She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for The View."
