Randy Travis will remain in the hospital for another 2-3 weeks while he continues to recover from congestive heart failure, a stroke and brain surgery. According to his doctor, “His condition has stabilized.”

Dr. Gary Erwin reports, “Randy is still breathing with the help of the ventilator and we hope to have him weaned off of that very soon. He is awake and alert, interacting with his family and friends and beginning to start doing some early physical therapy.”

Randy’s fiancee Mary Davis thanked friends and family for “the outpouring of love and affection that has shown up at the hospital and at home, and through several different avenues of support.”

She added, “Those are prayers that have helped mend his heart. He is responding well to voices and he sees and he understands. He’s miles beyond where any of us thought he would be a few days ago.”

Despite widespread speculation that a life of heavy drinking led to his recent health issues, the singer’s medical team indicates a family history of cardiomyopathy is the culprit that nearly took the life of Randy Travis earlier this month.
