Welch singer-songwriter Charlotte Church turned down an opportunity to become a judge during season 10 of X Factor UK.

The 27-year-old classical and pop entertainer tweeted, “I got asked to do the X Factor job. I’d rather poke my eyes out with sticks than be a part of the machine that kills music.”

Church revealed, “I had a meeting to ask about the level of involvement in the creative process I could have, and they basically said none unless it was in line with what was required … I wanted to see just how hard-line it was. I found my answer and politely declined.”

Not long after she spoke out, a member of the X Factor organization indicated the show’s producers found Church “boring” and claim “she was never high on the priority list as there were far bigger names producers were looking at.”

Slated to appear this fall as judges for season 10: Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne. Show creator, Simon Cowell, will appear on the live shows via satellite link from Los Angeles – where he will be judging the U.S. version of X Factor.

The award-winning singer has sold 10 million records worldwide and will release a new album, ‘THREE,’ on August 19, 2013.
