Dakota Johnson Lands Female Lead in 'Fifty Shades'

Model-turned-actress Dakota Johnson will co-star with actor Charlie Hunnam on the big screen in the much-anticipated 'Fifty Shades of Grey.'

Author E.L. James tweeted Monday, "I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey."

Hunnam, who will take on the role of Christian Grey, leaked the film's release date on Twitter, "#50ShadesOfGrey Expected release date: Aug. 1 2014 #CharlieHunnam #SOAFX Thanks."

His 23-year-old leading lady is the daughter of actor Don Johnson and actress Melanie Griffith.  Her famous lineage doesn't stop there.  Her grandmother is actress Tippi Hedren and her actor step-dad is Antonio Banderas.

Griffith tweeted, "My beautiful child Dakota has been chosen to play Anna Steele in 50 Shades.  Look out world!  Here she comes!!! #proudmama"

A producer on the film, Michael De Luca, also hit Twitter, "Auditions were stunning, incredible chemistry."


Johnson made her film debut in 'Crazy in Alabama,' cast with her half-sister, Stella Banderas, as daughters to their real-life mother in 1999.

She signed on in 2006 with the William Morris Agency and soon afterward was named Miss Golden Globe by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, an honor that 18-year-old daughter's of A-Listers lobby vigorously for each year.

Dakota has two other films slated to hit theaters in 2014: 'Need for Speed' and 'Cymbeline.'
