Newly-engaged Katie Couric, 56, and her fiance John Molner took in some tennis action Wednesday night at the U.S. Open in New York, their first public appearance since announcing their plan to wed.

The television talk show host was sporting a diamond engagement ring that has her beaming with obvious delight.

She had this to say about getting engaged in East Hampton over the Labor Day weekend, “I was stunned. It took a long time for my brain to process what was going on.”

Katie tweeted, “Yes it’s true! So touched by all the kind tweets & warm wishes – thank you! A great end to the summer.”

Molner, 50, is an executive in the mergers and acquisitions group at Brown Brothers Harriman in Manhattan.

His fiancee was widowed 15 years ago when her husband Jay Monahan died of colon cancer. Daughters Ellie, 22, and Carrie, 17, posed with their famous mom in late 2012 for the Got Milk ad campaign:
