Selena Gomez has been forced to cancel four eastern European concerts after being denied a Russian visa, according to Billboard.

The singer scrapped performances in Minsk, Belarus Friday, Kiev, Ukraine Saturday and St. Petersburg and Moscow early next week after what is believed to be a “bureaucratic” problem stemming from Russia’s controversial new law that bars “propaganda on nontraditional sexual relationships.”

It remains unclear if Russia put pressure on Belarus and Ukraine to deny Gomez entry or if the singer’s camp considered the four venues an all or nothing deal.

Russia may have gotten wind of a Change.org petition pushed by gay rights activist John Becker and 10,000 of his followers, urging Gomez to “stand up for Russia’s LGBT community” while she was in the country.

After learning that Selena was forced to cancel the gigs, Becker remarked, “The Russian government is clearly on edge and aware of the bruising its reputation has taken in the wake of their anti-LGBT crackdown.”

Cher, 67, turned down an epic opportunity to be the opening act at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, in protest of Russia’s anti-gay law. She explained, “I immediately said no. I want to know why all of this gay hate just exploded over there.”

Another celeb putting principle before career is Bravo’s Andy Cohen, who turned down a chance to host the 2013 Miss Universe pageant in Moscow on November 9. Organization owner, Donald Trump, refused to boycott the event but did express his “deep concern” for the recently enacted laws.
