Concert promoter AEG Live scored a court victory on Wednesday when a jury unanimously agreed that they were not responsible for the death of Michael Jackson.

The wrongful death case went to jurors three days ago after they heard five months of testimony. They reached a verdict on Oct. 2 in a case that produced testimony regarding Jackson’s drug use, emotion state and physical health as he was preparing to embark on a series of comeback concerts billed as ‘This Is It.’

Katherine Jackson brought the lawsuit against AEG Live, alleging they hired Dr. Conrad Murray to oversee the care of Michael Jackson and should have known that he was incompetent by closely monitoring and directing his role.

The family matriarch expected a jury award of between $1 billion and $2 billion, feeling falsely confident because a civil trial judge sentenced Dr. Murray to four years behind bars for involuntary manslaughter. He is expected to receive an early release on Oct. 28, 2013.

While the jury acknowledged that AEG Live hired Dr. Murray, they found that the physician was competent at the time he was brought on to serve as the Pop icons medical care provider. According to AEG testimony, they brought the doctor on at Michael Jackson’s insistence.

No damages were awarded.
