Marina Shifrin decided to quit her job in a novel way — by creating an interpretive dance video titled ‘I Quit,’ that quickly went viral on YouTube. ”

During a guest appearance on the ‘Queen Latifah Show,’ the host mentioned that she was looking for someone “creative and fearless” to work for her and offered Marina a job. The out of work comedic video producer thought she might be pulling her leg.

Queen Latifah responded, “I’m a boss! And bosses can hire!”

The clever dance clip was set to Kanye West’s rap tune ‘Gone’ and utilized subtext to get her message across as she grooved at her empty workplace at 4:30 a.m. She ends the sequence by shutting out the light and closing the door as “I quit” flashes on the screen.

Marina worked as a comedy writer for Taiwan’s Next Media Animation, producing humorous cartoons tied to news events.

Her resignation subtext read: “For two years I’ve sacrificed my relationships, time and energy for this job, and my boss only cares about quantity and how many views each video gets, so I figured I’d make one video of my own to focus on the content instead of worrying about the views.”

Next Media spokesman Mark Simon said, “We run a creative shop, not a sweatshop. We are not really upset as we know Marina and she is a good egg. This was seen by her as a funny way to leave. She was right, it is awesome.”

The video has received 13 million views. Check it out plus Queen Latifah’s job offer below:
