The first photos of Prince George in his christening gown were posted on the Clarence House Twitter page Wednesday morning, Oct. 23.
Prince William held his three-month-old infant as photographers captured the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at St. James Palace.
Twenty-two guests were invited to the private 45-minute ceremony led by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby at the Chapel Royal.
Reading the two scripture lessons were Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton, siblings of William and Kate. The two hymns chosen for the christening were ‘Breathe on Me, Breath of God,’ and ‘Be Thou My Vision.’
After the church service guests traveled to Clarence House for a celebratory party given by Prince George’s grandfather Prince Charles and his wife Camilla in their private London residence.
The baby is third in line to the Royal throne behind Prince Charles and Prince William. His great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II is 87 and has worn the crown since 1953 when her father King George VI died.
The young prince wore a handmade replica of the original royal christening robe. The new lace garment was commissioned in 2004 by the Queen after the circa 1844 christening gown became too fragile.
