Dr. Conrad Murray was released shortly after midnight Monday after serving two years behind bars for administering the anesthetic propofol to pop icon Michael Jackson leading to his death in 2009.

Murray was sentenced to four years at the Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles for involuntary manslaughter in Nov. 2011. His time behind bars was reduced as the result of standard good behavior credits accounting the the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

He recently told a reporter, “I will restart my life and, God willing, I will be a model to show the world that despite adversity, and when bad things happen to good people, they can restart their life and succeed.”

According to his appellate attorney Valerie Wass, he hopes to regain his suspended medical license and resume treating patients.

His early release comes on the heels of a failed lawsuit filed by Katherine Jackson, seeking damages from concert promoter AEG Live because they hired Dr. Conrad Murray. A jury determined that the doctor was fully competent to act as Jackson’s personal physician and the Jackson family matriarch was awarded nothing at the conclusion of the months long trial.
