ABC daytime talk show host Katie Couric will be switching gears in January 2014 when she begins her new job as global anchor for the Internet company Yahoo.

CEO Marissa Mayer of Yahoo announced that Couric “will lead a growing team of correspondents at Yahoo News who will cover the world’s most interesting stories and newsmakers.”

She added, “Katie’s depth of experience, her intellectual curiosity, and her charisma make her the perfect choice to anchor Yahoo News and the whole Yahoo Network. Her unmatched energy, savvy, and versatility enables her to connect with audiences across the globe.”

The host of ‘Katie’ released this statement, “It’s very exciting to be a part of a leading company at the intersection of content and technology. I have great admiration for Marissa Mayer and her team and their commitment to bringing news, entertainment and information to the Yahoo community across multiple platforms.”

Katie will continue to host her syndicated daytime show on ABC through the remainder of season two — slated to end at the end of July 2014. No decision has been made regarding a possible third season but sources close to the situation indicate that it will be two and out for the ‘Katie Show.’

The former ABC News correspondent announced her engagement this summer to financier John Molner, her boyfriend of two years.

Couric has two daughters, Ellie, 22, and Carrie, 17. Their father, lawyer Jay Monahan, died of colon cancer in 1998 at the age of 42.
