The popular game show ‘Wheel of Fortune’ aired a controversial episode Monday night that included a movie title puzzle for ‘The Fast and the Furious.’

Because of the weekend death of actor Paul Walker, producers scrambled to apologize for what many might see as insensitivity on the part of the longest-running syndicated game show in the U.S.

A message crawled across the screen that read: “This episode was taped a few weeks ago, prior to the tragic passing of ‘The Fast and the Furious’ actor Paul Walker.”

Show host Pat Sajak tweeted, “Feel terrible about timing of ‘Fast & Furious puzzle tonight. Taped long ago & went out to 200 local stations days ago.”

The 40-year-old actor was a passenger in a red Porsche that crashed and burst into flames Saturday. He and his close friend Roger Rodas died in the crash. The bodies were so badly burned that dental records were requested by the L.A. Coroner’s Office in order to make positive identifications prior to autopsies slated for Tuesday.

Walker is survived by a 15-year-old daughter Meadow, his parents Paul and Cheryl Walker, brothers Cody and Caleb, and a sister, Ashley.
