Taking a page out of the Arnold Schwarzenegger playbook, actor Steven Seagal is seriously considering a run for Governor of Arizona.

He told KNXV-TV ABC Phoenix that he is mulling over dipping his toe into politics. He claims the number one problem facing the U.S. is its open borders and he supports the strong immigration enforcement efforts of Joe Arpaio, five-time elected sheriff of Maricopa County.

Seagal’s new Reelz Channel reality series ‘Steven Seagal: Lawman – Maricopa County’ premiered on January 2, 2014 with a network record 3.4 million viewers. Eight episodes were filmed in Arizona in 2013, with the actor serving as an unpaid civilian working with Sheriff Arpaio and his deputies.

Besides his success as an action film star, the 61-year-old is a martial artist with a 7th-dan black belt in Aikido who began his adult life as an instructor — the first foreigner to operate an Aikido dojo in Japan.

Seagal holds a ceremonial position as Reserve Deputy Chief in the Jefferson Parish, Louisiana Sheriff’s Office. It was the basis for his two-season reality show ‘Steven Seagal: Lawman’ that aired in 2009-2010.
