Breaking News: Congresswoman Michele Bachmann was NOT arrested for DUI after smoking pot in Colorado, despite reports to the contrary.

The City of Fort Collins debunked the rumors with this social media tweet, “On the record, those internet rumors about Michele Bachmann being arrest for DUI in Fort Collins are NOT true. #fcpolice”

It turns out that satire news site Newslo published the fake story, indicating that the Washington politician was arrested early Tuesday morning in Fort Collins after running a red light and failing “multiple sobriety tests.” They further embellished that MB “indulged in cannabis consumption” will spending the holidays with family in Colorado.

Bachmann’s spokesman, Dan Kotman, told the Fort Collins Coloradoan, “She was not even in Fort Collins. It’s not true.”

Newslo said, “Readers come to us for a unique brand of entertainment and information that is enhanced by features like our fact-button, which allows readers to find what is fact and what is satire.” That said, when you hit the “fact” button on the Bachmann story, the only part that came up as fact was that driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal in Colorado.

The 57-year-old Republican represents Minnesota’s 6th congressional district, a post she has held since 2007. She announced in May 2013 that she will not seek re-election to her Congressional seat in 2014.

The outspoken “Queen of the Tea Party” failed in her bid for the Republican nomination in the 2012 U.S. presidential election.
