Shaun White fell Thursday during the Olympic Slopestyle snowboarding qualifying run at Mammoth Mountain, California.

He landed face-first into the snow while trying a double flip on the second big jump of the course. He remained down for about 5 minutes and seemed shaken after the crash.

White told the AP, “I haven’t taken a hit like that in a long time. You crash, and then the next morning is when you really feel it. I have a date with a tub full of ice right now.”

He turned things around Friday and qualified in two events. The snowboard star has his sights set on taking home gold in Russia next month.

After turning things around, he told reporters, “I’m so thankful to make that run and to be on top of the podium and headed to Sochi. I’m beside myself. It went from one side of the coin all the way to the other from this morning with that crash to, now, winning.”

He is considered a heavy favorite to clinch a spot on the Men’s Snowboard Halfpipe team on Sunday.
