Hollywood A-lister Brad Pitt hit the red carpet Saturday night at the 25th Producers Guild Awards in support of the highly-acclaimed film ’12 Years a Slave.’

Pitt appeared in and produced the award-winning historical drama that is nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

The shocker of the evening occurred when the film tied with ‘Gravity’ for the top award, the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures. It was the first time in PGA’s 25-year history that two films shared the top prize.

Regarding Brad’s current hairstyle featuring a decidedly close shave on the sides, the actor insists he much prefers his usual shoulder-length mop that he can pull back in a low man ponytail.

The military-styled high and tight ‘do is actually for a film role. Brad told a reporter, “It’s not a choice. It’s for a part.”

He and co-stars Shia LaBeouf and Scott Eastwood have been shooting ‘Fury’ in the UK, a World War II action-drama that will hit theaters on November 14, 2014.

Pitt’s fiancee Angelina Jolie did not attend Saturday night’s high profile event. She is currently in Australia filming her latest directorial project, ‘Unbroken.’
