Soap opera star Alison Sweeney has decided to curtail her long and successful career on ‘Days of Our Lives’ at the end of the season.

After more than two decades of appearing as Sami Brady, the actress, 37, will say goodbye to her daytime gig on NBC. She began at age 16 and is ready to move on.

The actress revealed the news on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ Tuesday. Alison announced, “I’m celebrating my 21st year … and I decided that it’s going to be my last year on the show. I have worked so much, and my daughter just turned 5 and my son is 9, and I just want to be with them.”

She wed David Sanov in 2000 and recently posed with their children, Megan and Ben, during the premiere of ‘Frozen’ at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood.

How does she envision her final episode? She mused, “It would be awesome to have some kind of happy ending. But then, I also think Sami probably deserves some sort of very twisted, like ‘Breaking Bad’ ending.”

Sweeney has been doing double duty on NBC since 2007, when she began hosting ‘The Biggest Loser.’

In the final analysis, she is ready to be more hands on with her children. “I’m really just excited to be with my kids and be with my husband and have fun. And I write. My second book is coming out. I love directing and just finding things to do.”
