Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg made an 11th hour decision to fly United from Seoul to San Francisco, cancelling her ticket on Asiana Flight 214.
Sandberg posted on Facebook, “Taking a minute to be thankful. We switched to United so we could use miles for my family’s tickets. Our flight was scheduled to come in at the same time, but we were early and landed about 20 minutes before the crash.”
The COO and author was in South Korea to promote her new book ‘Lean In.’
She knew other people on the flight that crashed, including Samsung exec David Eun. He tweeted after the ordeal, “Feeling a little shaky from yesterday’s experience but strengthened by outpouring of support from all over…”
The Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 with 307 people on board crashed and burst into flames as it attempted to land at San Francisco International Airport. Two teens from China were killed and 180 were injured.
According to early reports, most of the passengers were Chinese, Korean and U.S. nationals.
