Mariah wardrobe malfunction

Suffice it to say that Mariah Carey was not having a good morning during her Friday performance on ABC’s ‘GMA’ show.

While chatting with host Lara Spencer, live from Central Park in Manhattan, the diva suffered a wardrobe malfunction when the back zipper on her slinky Versace dress popped open.

MC blurted, “Oh S***, the back of the dress just popped.”  Lara responded, “It popped?”

Mariah lamented, “I love you Donatella, but it popped darling.”

While several handlers attempted to pull the back of the dress together so that it could be temporarily fastened, the singer asked, “Is it gonna fall?”  Then referring to her ample cleavage, she announced,  “OK, both of them are out now.”

Mariah joked, “What should we call this?  The Central Park Saga?”

Spencer responded emphatically, “I dare say this is a TV moment.”

Janet Jackson billionaire

Over the past few days reports strongly suggest that Janet Jackson has joined the prestigious ranks of the famed billionaires club.

As it turns out, the iconic entertainer has likely earned that much over the course of her 40 year career but it remains unclear whether she has cash and assets, in her name, totaling 10 figures now.

According to a Variety story a few days ago, JJ “has made $81 million in music and book publishing, $260 million in album sales, $458 million in worldwide tours grosses, $60 million in tour sponsorships, $21.5 million in licensing and $304 million at the box office, which adds up to well over a billion dollars.”

Forbes writer Dorothy Pomerantz points out, “Net worth is not based on how much your work has brought in over a lifetime.”

Janet’s rep had this to say, “What Variety had, to the best of my knowledge, is all correct.  As to whether she is or isn’t a billionaire, that’s not information that has been or would be imparted to me.  She’s an exceedingly bright business person in all forms of life, including entertainment.  There’s people whose money goes and people whose money grows, and she’s very astute with her finances.”

We can say for certain that her husband, Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana, IS a bona fide billionaire.

Wissom, 37, and Janet, 47, wed  in a private ceremony in 2012.  According to Forbes, he is one of the richest retail investors in the Middle East.

Idol Alum tapped to judge the show

FOX and ‘American Idol’ are reportedly courting several former contestants to become season 13 judges — the latest attempt to turn the ratings tide that has been plummeting for the past several cycles of the show.

There are strong indications that Jennifer Hudson is negotiating a deal that will land the Oscar and Grammy-winning entertainer a place on the judges panel.  Other successful past participants who are rumored to be on the short list include Clay Aiken and Adam Lambert.

Kelly Clarkson, who won the first season of ‘Idol’ in 2002, was also in the rumored mix until her rep stated emphatically, “Kelly will not be a judge on ‘Idol.’”  She is slated to get married later this year to Blake Shelton’s manager, Brandon Blackstock.

At the White House

Fox Alternative Entertainment President Mike Darnell talked about finding the perfect singing show judge, “If you’ve never done it before, we don’t know what we’re getting.  You might be great, you might be terrible.  It’s a skill… Everybody thinks they can do it but not everybody can.”

Shortly after sharing that tidbit Darnell fired himself.  His statement read: “Mike Darnell votes himself out of Fox Broadcasting Company.  The results are in.  I’m extremely grateful that Fox has offered me a new long term contract but I’ve decided it’s time for a change.  I’ve been in ‘reality’ since before it was even called that, and it has truly been an amazing ride.”

Assuming you are a former fan of the show … would a season of ‘American Idol’ alum as judges lure you back in?

Oklahoma natives to perform

Blake Shelton is just one of the high profile headliners who will participate Wednesday during NBC’s ‘Healing in the Heartland’ benefit.

The live telethon event, taking place at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, will air May 29, at 9 p.m. EDT, as well as cable networks Style, G4, Bravo, E! and CMT.

Joining the Oklahoma native and coach of ‘The Voice’ will be country entertainers Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire and Vince Gill.

Funds raised will be earmarked for the United Way of Central Oklahoma May Tornadoes Relief Fund.

Shelton said, “Everyone has their way to help, and mine as an entertainer is to perform to help raise money and awareness for this tragedy.  This is why I want to do this special and especially hold it in Oklahoma City, which is near ground zero.”

Fellow Oklahoman Carrie Underwood donated $1 million to the American Red Cross.

The benefit will aid those affected by the powerful EF5 tornado, with 200 mph winds, that destroyed Moore, Oklahoma on May 20, killing 24 people, including 10 children in an elementary school.

Carrie Underwood will donate Blown Away tour proceeds

Oklahoma native Carrie Underwood is putting her money where her heart is with a $1 million donation to the American Red Cross.  The funds have been earmarked for disaster relief efforts in her tornado ravaged state.

According to her rep, Underwood’s charitable contribution will come from proceeds earned during her year long ‘Blown Away Tour,’ that wrapped this week.

The former ‘American Idol’ winner issued this statement, “I have watched the devastation in my home state of Oklahoma over the past several days with great sadness.  With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornado.”

Red Cross executive officer Neal Litvack acknowledged the generous donation:  “The impact of the tornados in Oklahoma and the Midwest was devastating and the road to recovery will be long for many families.  Through the generosity of Carrie, the American Red Cross can quickly respond with shelter, food and comfort now, and with lasting help as they move toward recovery.”

NBC will host a benefit concert next week that has been spearheaded by Oklahoma native Blake Shelton.
