50 Cent Plans Name Change

It is a clear case of out with the old and in with the new for rapper 50 Cent aka Curtis Jackson. The singer and actor hinted to the change on his Twitter page.

“50 Cent is a person I created, soon it will be time to destroy him and become somebody else.”

The handle “50 Cent” originated from the 1980’s Brooklyn, New York robber Kelvin “50 Cent” Martin.

So far the rapper is mum on what he has up his sleeve to replace his current identifier.

The rapper uses a different moniker when he acts… his birth name.

50 Cent Wants to Mentor Joaquin Phoenix

This might be the strangest entertainment news that we have read all day! Rapper 50 Cent thinks former actor Joaquin Phoenix might really have a shot at becoming a hip hop artist.

50 must not have seen his performance earlier this year in Las Vegas as he debuted his rapping talents, or lack thereof, or his interview with late night talk show host David Letterman. He appears to be operating in some other world.

The rapper talked to Blackvoices.com and had this to say about Phoenix:

“He should write about the things that he has real interest in, the things that he has been influenced by. Because, when an artist writes something that’s totally away from their experience period, it can’t be embraced. Like when you have a former correctional officer (Rick Ross) write from the biggest drug dealers in Miami’s perspective they don’t get it.”

He also went on to say that you don’t have to have a “criminal” background to write and sing good music. He believes Phoenix could even write from a totally positive perspective. We’ll stick our neck out any say that might be a stretch right now.

It is really hard to say how Britney Spears will interpret some recent remarks made by Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent. The rapper says that the pop star was the inspiration for his fourth studio album, Before I Self Destruct.

The album was originally set to drop in November but now has a release date of March 24, 2009.

The rapper says that he got his material from watching the pop star in her downward spiral in 2007, including her head shaving, the umbrella attack and the rest of the out of control behavior that the world witnessed live.

50 told OK! magazine, “She was the greatest show on earth last year. She was going through her issues in public…It was great to watch her spin out of control because it makes the average person feel better.”

We most certainly didn’t feel better. In fact, if made us and the rest of Brit’s other fans feel helpless.

Shaniqua Tompkins and 50 Cent

Investigators from the Suffolk County arson squad were called to the multi-million dollar Long Island home of rapper 50 Cent, after a suspicious fire broke out, sending six people to the hospital for smoke inhalation, including his ex-girlfriend, Shaniqua Tompkins, and their 10-year-old son Marquis.

The blaze occurred just days after a heated confrontation inside the woman’s attorney’s office over the home. 50 Cent does not live in the home and apparently wasn’t there at the time.

50 Cent, who’s real name is Curtis Jackson, is being sued by Tompkins, who claims the rapper promised her the $2.5 million home, but now wants to evict her and their son.

Tompkins’ lawyer, Paul Catsandonis, said the dispute over the house had become “extremely, extremely contentious” in recent days. Although he declined to be specific, he said there was an “extremely dangerous incident” on Monday in his Manhattan office while taking a deposition for the lawsuit.

An off-duty police officer helped rescue six people from the deck of the home. All six were treated and released from the hospital.

Rapper 50 Cent was told by movie execs that he needs to shed some of his muscles for his upcoming role in the movie Streets of Blood. Taking this seriously, 50 is doing aerobics as part of his training regimen to better fit the role where he will be playing a cop in the Hurricane Katrina action movie.

Joining the rapper on the big screen will be Sharon Stone and Val Kilmer. Being associated with several big name box office stars can only help to advance the rapper’s career. All he has to do now is prove himself and who knows where things might lead.

Stone has been seen out partying in New York and Miami with her cast mates and a source said that she has even been listening to G-UNIT. Always the life of the party, the aging actress doesn’t seem to be leaving behind her preference for having a good time.

Word is that 50’s buddies have been making fun of the rapper, insinuating that he is becoming too “girly”. It sounds like 50 is ready to do what it takes to become an actor. We wish him luck in this new project.

Rapper 50 Cent is just one of many artists that have decided to branch out and start their own social site. Although 50 will be leaving over a million fans on MySpace, I am sure many will follow. 50’s new site is called Thisis50.com.

The difference between MySpace and Thisis50 is that you will not just be creating a profile and finding friends but the rapper will have direct access to your email address. So you should expect lots of self promotion emails.

To make sure that this is clear – this is not a fan club site. This is strictly for 50 to promote his music and the music of other artists that he likes. Oh, and the other stuff that social sites do. You will be able to add friends and if you are lucky 50 will write about your profile in news stories on the site.

A few other stars who are branching out into the social network are, Ludacris, Kylie Minogue and the Pussy Cat Dolls. Smart move, we all know that the founders of MySpace and Facebook are sitting pretty high on life right now.

School may have just started, but Kanye West’s Graduation has come just in time for the beleaguered music biz.
Following one of the worst weeks in the history of album sales comes one of the liveliest, and boy was it needed.

Thanks to a record-shattering first day at iTunes and traditional retail (where it reportedly sold more than 435k), IDJ artist West will debut at #1 on next Tuesday’s HITS Top 50 Album Chart, easily surpassing 800k in sales.

That would more than top Linkin Park’s previous one-week high of 625k set in May and Rascal Flatts’ 2006 high of 722k. In fact, it would be the biggest sales debut since West’s last album Late Registration bowed in August 2005 with 860k.

August 11, 2007. Looks like the Clash Of The Titans that was scheduled to take place between 50 Cent’s album Curtis and Kanye West’s album Graduation is not going to happen. According to one of MediaTakeOut.com’s most reliable Def Jam sources - Kanye West’s album will not be released on September 11th.

According to a top Def Jam exec, the battle is officially over. The insider told MediaTakeOut.com, “It sounded like a good idea at first, but not anymore … It was just a friendly competition and now [50 Cent's team] is trying to make it into a battle to the death.” The exec added, “Kanye is one of [Def Jam's] most successful artist, we’re not going to risk damaging his career with this feud.”
