Kelly Clarkson to join Maroon 5 on tour

Maroon 5 announced this morning that they will headline the 2013 Honda Civic Tour kicking off on August 1.  Joining them will be former ‘Idol’ winner Kelly Clarkson.

Frontman Adam Levine said, “I think the live outdoor kind of summer vibe is always different than the indoor arena tour because there’s less emphasis on production and more on live music.  It’s kind of the purest form of a tour because there’s not too many bells and whistles.”

The 31-day tour featuring their fourth studio album ‘Overexposed’ will wrap on October 5.  Besides Levine, group members include Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden, James Valentine and Matt Flynn.

Levine indicates the group has started on a follow-up album.  “We’ve got some great songs in the can.  The stuff we’re working on now, it definitely has gone maybe a little darker in its sound, maybe back a little bit more to what we kind of did on our debut ‘Songs About Jane.’

Besides creating new music, Adam helped kick off the new season of NBC’s ‘The Voice’ last week with Blake Shelton, Shakira and Usher.

Judith Hill joins Team Adam

A clearly delighted Adam Levine was picked to coach Judith Hill during the Season 4 premiere of NBC’s ‘The Voice’ Monday night.

Hill has an impressive musical history, having gained national attention when she sang ‘Heal the World’ at the televised memorial service for Michael Jackson.  In fact, she was to have been a featured vocalist on the ill-fated ‘This Is It’  tour.

Last night Judith performed an outstanding rendition of ‘What a Girl Wants,’ prompting all four coaches to swivel in their chairs.

The Maroon 5 rocker was hell-bent to have Hill on his team.  He announced, “I’m gonna light myself on fire to make sure you’re on my team.”

Debuting last night were new coaches Usher Raymond and Shakira.  The Colombian singer and her Spanish football player boyfriend Gerard Pique welcomed a son Milan in late January.

New Season ... New Coaches

Will Hill make it all the way?  Adam Levine thinks so with this tweet, “Welcome to #TeamAdam @judith_hill #VoicePremiere !!!!! I know it is too early to call it….but I’m calling it. #TEAMADAM wins.”

Blind auditions were held from Jan. 12 to Feb 17 in Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Houston and New York City.  Those episodes will air in the coming weeks on ‘The Voice’ Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.

Adam Levine fragrance

Adam Levine was at Macy’s Herald Square in New York City on Friday for the Adam Levine Signature Fragrances Launch Event.

The Maroon 5 frontman and The Voice coach was in the Big Apple to promote his new line of fragrances for both men and women.

Levine has famously bashed celebrity fragrances in the past, tweeting in 2011 that he wanted to “put an official ban on celebrity fragrances. Punishable by death from this point on.”

At a private party last week in West Hollywood where Levine debuted his brand, he seemed to be in spin mode, backpedaling a bit. “I thought it would be nice to have something real and long-lasting and something that can compete with any fragrance, let alone celebrity fragrances,” he told Us Weekly. “I’m not a fan of celebrity fragrances.”

Levine describes the men’s fragrance as “very kind of simple and citric.” And of the women’s fragrance, Levine says, “It’s something you can enjoy if you’re in close proximity to a woman and smell her neck or her arm or something.”

“I don’t like being bombarded by a whole flower garden or marshmallows.”

Alicia Keys and Adam Levine Grammys

One of the best performances of the 55th Annual Grammy Awards Sunday night at the Staples Center in L.A. featured two of our favorite entertainers.

In the interest of self-disclosure, we’ll admit we dig Alicia Keys and have a HUGE crush on Maroon 5 rocker Adam Levine.

‘The Voice’ coach started out the performance with ‘Daylight’ followed by a duet with Alicia as they rocked ‘Girl On Fire’ … an amazing piece of musical artistry that had the audience up on their feet and singing along.

Keys, who feels most comfortable sitting at the piano, showed off her girl power by playing the drums.  She later tweeted, “Just got off stage!  SO blessed to have performed in this room!  I remember the first time! #GRAMMYs #memories”

Levine tweeted prior to the show, “Extremely excited for the @THEGRAMMYs tonight!  Performance is going to be EPIC.  And I kinda really wanna win one.  Ok?  Just one will be fine.”

Maroon 5 was up for Best PopDuo/Group Performance for ‘Payphone’ with Wiz Khalifa and Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘Overexposed.’  Unfortunately the awards went to Gotye featuring Kimbra and Kelly Clarkson.

The Keys-Levine Grammys performance received mixed reviews, with the word “bland” being used by some.   Jay-Z and Beyonce showed the entertainers some love by bobbing their heads appreciatively to the beat when a camera caught their reaction mid-song.

Check it out and let us know what you think?  Did show host LL Cool J get it right when he promised the audience that the performance was going to be “literally on fire”?

Hillary Scott Mentors Team Adam Levine

Lady Antebellum singer Hillary Scott will join Adam Levine on Season 4 of ‘The Voice’ as his team’s guest mentor.

The country celeb has agreed to join the NBC reality singing competition in support of the popular Maroon 5 judge.  His previous mentors have included Alanis Morissette, Robin Thicke and Mary J. Blige.

Levine said, “I was so happy that Hillary was interested in coming on ‘The Voice’ to mentor my team.  I recorded a song with her for Maroon 5′s last studio album and we had a great time collaborating.  She is an incredible performer and artist.  I know my team will be able to learn a lot from her.”

Scott is looking forward to the new opportunity, “I was so excited to join Adam for a couple days on ‘The Voice.’  It’s an honor to mentor his team… he’s going to have some tough choices to make!”

The mother-to-be, due this summer, took the opportunity to diss fellow country star Blake Shelton by joking, “I’m sure we’ll have way more fun than Blake’s team!”

Check out all of the new action when Season 4 of ‘The Voice’ premieres on March 25 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
