Ashlee Simpson is single again, having recently split from her ‘Boardwalk Empire’ actor boyfriend Vincent Piazza.

The 28-year-old sister of fashion designer Jessica Simpson filed for divorce from rocker Pete Wentz in February 2011 and hooked up with Piazza a few months later.

It appears Vincent’s busy schedule and the fact that his home base and film location is in New York City is to blame for the breakup.  He portrays a gangster on the successful HBO show that is now in its third season.

This is perhaps why Ashlee has been joined-at-the-hip recently with her successful older sister during a number of Jessica’s promo appearances.

The mother of 4-year-old Bronx hopes to resurrect her own career with the release of a fourth studio album.  She dropped a new single Bat For A Heart on Nov. 21.

Ashlee Simpson dumping her man …

After two years of marriage, Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz have called it quits.  She filed for divorce in L.A. Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences.

The couple released a statement through her rep: “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce.  We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our No. 1 priority.  We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives.”

The 26-year-old sister of Jessica Simpson is seeking primary physical custody of their 2-year-old son, and is seeking spousal support from her musician husband.  She has also petitioned the court to remove the hyphenated Wentz from her last name.

The couple wed in May 2008 — at a ceremony officiated by the bride’s father Joe Simpson.  Check out her wedding day pose after the jump below:

The role is not a new one for the actress.  She played Roxie at the Cambridge Theatre on London’s West End to rave reviews in late 2006.  One reviewer called the performance “dazzling and near flawless.”

The 25-year-old is married to Fall Out Boy musician Pete Wentz.  The couple have a son Bronx Mowgli, who will turn one-year-old on November 20.

Jessica Simpson Twitter

Wow, we’re kind of shocked that Jessica Simpson is actually taking a stand for her sister Ashlee Simpson, who was recently booted from CW’s Melrose Place.  Ashlee took the high road and decided to go out with grace, but her big sis decided to get in a nasty parting shot.

The current trend is for celebrities to ‘tweet’ their angst and that is exactly what Jess did last night.

“CW catching up on MP.  Who writes this crap?  I have had bad scripts to work with but this?  Thank God my sister is amazing and got you some press.”

Check out Ashlee’s classy statement here.  Hey Jessica, we have seen a few of your films and find it hard to believe Melrose Place is worse…we’re just saying.
