One of Spain’s synchronized swimming teams was banned from competition because they deviated from the Olympic rules when they wore embedded waterproof lights. It seems the Spaniards wanted to call attention to their body of work by adding some extra sparkle and flare.

Dawn Harper, 24, took the gold in the Women’s 100 meter hurdles final in Beijing on August 19, 2008. The strong field of women hurdlers included Damu Cherry and favorite Lolo Jones, who faltered, opening the door for Harper to leap through.
