Carrie Underwood will donate Blown Away tour proceeds

Oklahoma native Carrie Underwood is putting her money where her heart is with a $1 million donation to the American Red Cross.  The funds have been earmarked for disaster relief efforts in her tornado ravaged state.

According to her rep, Underwood’s charitable contribution will come from proceeds earned during her year long ‘Blown Away Tour,’ that wrapped this week.

The former ‘American Idol’ winner issued this statement, “I have watched the devastation in my home state of Oklahoma over the past several days with great sadness.  With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornado.”

Red Cross executive officer Neal Litvack acknowledged the generous donation:  “The impact of the tornados in Oklahoma and the Midwest was devastating and the road to recovery will be long for many families.  Through the generosity of Carrie, the American Red Cross can quickly respond with shelter, food and comfort now, and with lasting help as they move toward recovery.”

NBC will host a benefit concert next week that has been spearheaded by Oklahoma native Blake Shelton.

Miranda and Blake perform tribute duet

Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton performed a heart-felt rendition of her hit song ‘Over You’ last night on ‘The Voice’ as a tribute to the residents of Moore, Oklahoma.

Throughout the poignant performance, NBC displayed a banner at the bottom of the screen that read: “To help disaster victims, please donate at redcross.org or call 1-800-HELP NOW.”

The Oklahoma native and his wife opened Tuesday’s results show with the touching duet.  Afterward Shelton said, “I think ‘Over You’ was the perfect song for this situation.  The moment was right.  I wish things could have been different.  I wouldn’t have thought about performing a song like that, but it seemed like the right thing to do.”

Blake announced that he is already working with NBC on a concert to aid tornado victims, “Hopefully, it will be something big and will raise a lot of money, and obviously it will be televised.  It will happen really quickly and, hopefully, I can call in some really big favors.”  As he said the last, he was pointing at his fellow coach, Usher.

The two-hour season three finale of ‘The Voice’ Tuesday night ended in victory for Florida pop-rocker Cassadee Pope.

Third place honors went to Team Cee Lo’s protege, Minnesota native and dark horse Nicholas David.

There were no losers.  The three finalists were each presented with keys to a 2013 Kia Sorento.  In the words of Oprah …. “you get a car, you get a car, you get a car.”

One of the highlights last night on ‘The Voice’ was an Aerosmith-inspired rendition of ‘Dude Looks Like a Lady’ performed by finalist Terry McDermott and his coach Blake Shelton.

The duet was made even better by the surprise appearance of bare-chested guitarist Adam Levine, who was sporting a long wig and bandana.

A poignant moment at the beginning the Monday’s final round of competition featured the coaches singing ‘Hallelujah’ to honor the Sandy Hook fallen.

Tonight one of the remaining three finalists will be crowned this season’s winner on the hit NBC show ‘The Voice,’ airing at 9/8c.
