Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Hours after a New York Times op-ed piece revealed that actress Angelina Jolie underwent a double mastectomy and reconstruction, her partner Brad Pitt talked about why she went public.

After discovering that she carried the same BRCA1 gene mutation that led to the early death of her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, in 2007, the actress opted to greatly lessen her chances of developing cancer by undergoing breast removal surgery.

Pitt told USA TODAY, “I’m quite emotional about if, of course.  She could have stayed absolutely private about it and I don’t think anyone would have been the wiser with such good results.  But it was really important for her to share the story so that others would understand it  doesn’t have to be a scary thing.  In fact, it can be an empowering thing, and something that makes you stronger and us stronger.”

“The experience was an emotional and beautifully inspiring few months.  And I’ll tell you, it’s such a wonderful relief to come through this and not have a spectre hanging over our heads.  To know that it’s not going to be something that’s going to affect us.  My proudest thing is our family.  This isn’t going to get that.”

Jolie had kind words for Brad as well, “I am fortunate to have a partner who is so loving and supportive. So to anyone who has a wife or girlfriend going through this, know that you are a very important part of the transition.”

The couple’s six children were a big help too.  Pitt revealed, “We set up our own little post-op recovery that became pretty fun.  You make an adventure out of it.”

The latest films released by Hollywood A-listers Brad Pitt and Gerard Butler flopped during their opening weekend at the box office.

Last week Pitt’s ‘Killing Them Softly’ earned a dismal $6.8 million while six previously released films scored significantly bigger numbers.

Unfortunately for Butler and his co-star Jessica Biel, ‘Playing for Keeps’ did poorly this week, pulling in $6 million during its opening weekend, also soundly beaten by five previously released films that are still raking in revenue 3-5 weeks after hitting theaters.

The popular James Bond flick ‘Skyfall’ topped the chart again, bringing the total gross to $261,620,000.  Other popular flicks this weekend were ‘Rise of the Guardians,’ ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2,’ ‘Lincoln,’ and ‘Life of Pi.’

Things weren’t all bad for Pitt, who earned his third Oscar nomination this year for ‘Moneyball’ and got engaged to Angelina Jolie.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie announced their engagement in April and based on recent comments, it sounds like the wedding will be taking place in the near future.

Both Angelina and Brad have publicly spoken about the full court press their six children have initiated to get them to walk down the aisle.

Last night during the premiere of his new film ‘Killing Them Softly,’ Pitt spoke candidly, “I am getting more pressure from my kids, and it is something I want to do.  I also feel like the time has come.  The time is nigh.  It’s soon.  I got a good feeling about it.”

Brad admits that marrying Angelina is very important, “We’ve had a family, we’re raising the kids.  I am surprised how much the idea of marriage means to me when I’ve already had that.”

Comedic actor Taran Killam was a hit on this week’s Saturday Night Live with a humorous take on two new Chanel ads featuring A-lister Brad Pitt.

The Pitt lookalike staged a series of spoof clips throughout the episode in response to Chanel’s first-ever male fragrance campaign.

Killam quipped, “I’m sorry — is there really no script? ‘Cause I’ve been talking to myself for like two hours straight and I’m starting to sound insane.”

“What?  You want me to sound less coherent?  Really?  Okay, I can just start making up words? You like that? All right.”

The Pitt impersonator also hawked dog condoms and knows a doctor who can remove your tattoo.

Seductive describes the mood of the Chanel No. 5 ad in which Brad says, “It’s not a journey, every journey ends and we go on.  Wherever I go, there you are.”

Pitt is the first male spokesman for the brand.  Notable actresses who have famously fronted for the fragrance include Marilyn Monroe, Catherine Deneuve and Nicole Kidman.

The commercial launched globally this morning with print ads of Pitt and the perfume’s signature bottle on the Chanel website.
