Chaz Bono Sex Change Update (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Chaz Bono sat for a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight and provided an update on his gender transformation. He reports that at the age of 40-year-old, his true identity is emerging after a very long process that began nearly a decade ago.

After years of indecision, Chaz determined he was finally ready to take the steps necessary for the female-to-male sex change early this year. The process included the removal of breast tissue, which he called a relief rather than traumatic. Regarding the hormone treatments, Bono reports that the testosterone has slowly caused significant changes. “It lowered my voice. Fat redistributes, muscles grow, hair grows, sex drive increases…I shave about once a week now.”

Bono is the daughter of famed musicians Sonny and Cher and grew up in the public spotlight, and has been in a longtime relationship with partner Jennifer Elia – photos here.

Chastity Bono Sex Change Underway (Photos)

Sonny and Cher were quick to introduce their young daughter Chastity Bono to the entertainment world via their television show back in the 70’s. The sweet little girl with the big brown eyes, though dressed in frills and encouraged to play with dolls, realized that she was not like other girls by the time she was thirteen.

Chastity outed herself in the late 1980’s, much to the displeasure of her celebrity parents. The free-spirited Cher got over her ire within a few days but her father Sonny Bono was, by then, a politician. The Congressman from California and his daughter struggled in their relationship. Sonny had been estranged from his daughter for over a year when he died in a skiing accident in 1998.

The civil rights advocate, journalist, author and musician formerly known as Chastity has now become Chaz Bono, according to an exclusive TMZ report. He began the process of changing genders after turning 40, earlier this year. The process, a slow one, is currently underway–with no turning back.

Bono’s publicist, Howard Bragman, released the following statement:

“Yes, it’s true–Chaz, after many years of consideration, has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity. He is proud of his decision and grateful for the support and respect that has already been shown by his loved ones. It is Chaz’s hope that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his ‘coming out’ did nearly 20 years ago. We ask that the media respect Chaz’s privacy during this long process and he will not be doing any interviews at this time.”

What? Cher and Scientology Wacko? Now why after all these years have passed would singer Cher admit to having a fling with Tom Cruise. Seriously, why? During an interview with the talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, Cher revealed that she was crazy for the Risky Business star.

The romance was back when Tom was a mere 23 and Cher was sixteen years his senior and a seasoned pro at 39. The singing icon told Oprah it could have been a BIG romance because she really liked him but she was too busy to pursue it properly. Whatever prompted her to ‘out’ Tom in such a bizarre way is actually humorous. She also said:

He said he felt like such a boob in school and nobody talked to him. We went on a date once for dinner in a New York restaurant and the waitress was from his old school. He told me she never talked to him back in school, but now he was recognized and he got all her attention.”

Does Tom still feel like a boob from time to time? Probably so. For starters, the actor could use a stylist who would advise Cruise to dump the Mr. Rogers sweaters.

Cher is starting a new long term gig at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, which may be why she let slip her fling with Cruise. Tom will be featured on Oprah’s Friday show, his first sit down interview with O since he jumped on her couch two years ago. The interview took place over the weekend at Telluride, his Colorado retreat.

In the picture above, Cher is being shielded by her bodyguard. Crap, I mean daughter. If you are one of the many millions of reality show lovers, you are in for a treat. Cher (61) and her daughter Chastity Bono, whose father is the late Sonny Bono, are joining the reality show nightmare and hoping to be just like Ozzy and Sharon.

The show will revolve around Cher and Chastity helping men and women who are in conflict with telling their family that they are gay. In other words, the two will be “Celebrity Counselors.” Chastity came out to her mother when she was a teenager and was forced into therapy to try and make those thoughts go away.

Can you hear it now? The show will begin with Cher’s hit song If I Could Turn Back Time softly playing in the background. The laughter is now setting in. Would you want Cher around when your son is telling you that he is gay? Probably not, but it should have been a clue when your child’s favorite toy was his Cher doll. Remember Jack from Will and Grace? I rest my case.
