Erin Andrews is the new co-host of Dancing With the Stars.
A source has confirmed that the FOX Sports reporter will be replacing Brooke Burke-Charvet. The news comes just days after the announcement that Burke-Charvet will not be returning as Tom Bergeron’s co-host.
Just like Burke-Charvet, Andrews is a former contestant on DWTS, competing in season 10 with dance partner Maksim Chmerkovsky.
Burke-Charvet was blindsided by ABC’s decision to let her go, and has said she had no idea her job was on the line until she was told Friday afternoon.
Friday night, Brooke-Charvet issued a statement, saying, “I have enjoyed seven seasons co-hosting DWTS but understand the need for change considering the position of the show at this juncture,” she said in a statement. “I’ve always been one to embrace change and looking forward to pursuing opportunities I previously wasn’t able to entertain because of contractual obligations to the show. I’ve seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom but this one takes the cake.”
According to sources, Brooke never saw it coming, and learned Friday afternoon that she wouldn’t be returning.
This is the second big shake-up on the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars. The show also recently fired band leader and orchestrator Harold Wheeler, as well as his 28-member band.
As many expected, ‘Glee’ star Amber Riley and her pro partner Derek Hough won the ‘Dancing With the Stars’ season 17 championship during the second night of the final competition.
The popular couple scored a trio of 10′s for a perfect 30 score for their Fusion dance that combined a Samba and Quickstep to ‘Higher and Higher’ by Jackie Wilson.
Corbin Bleu faltered during his Cha-cha-cha and Foxtrot with pro Karina Smirnoff — setting for 9′s. An identical fate was in store for Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke for their Paso Doble-Salsa to the strains of ‘Sexy People.’
When their scores were combined with Monday night’s viewer votes — it was announced that Amber Riley finished the season in first place, followed in second place by Bleu and Osbourne in third.
It is pro Derek’s fifth championship. He last took the crown during season 16 with country singer Kellie Pickler.
The newly-crowned duo boarded a plane last night for New York City for a Wednesday morning ‘After Party’ on the ABC morning talk show ‘Good Morning America.’
Hough tweeted, “New York bound !!! Weather is really bad apparently. Gonna be a turbulent flight ! Fingers crossed.”
Riley gushed on social media, “THANK YOU! THANK YOOOOOOUUUUUU! I can’t believe it!!! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!”
ABC kicked off a two-night ‘Dancing with the Stars’ finale on Monday, November 25 with four remaining celebrities and their pro partners competing for the mirror ball trophy.
Making it to the final week of competition: Corbin Bleu & Karina Smirnoff, Amber Riley & Derek Hough, Bill Engvall & Emma Slater and Jack Osbourne & Cheryl Burke.
Last season’s champion, country singer Kellie Pickler, made a guest appearance to perform her new single ‘Little Bit Gypsy’ from her latest album The Woman I Am. She was skillfully led during season 16 by elite pro Derek Hough, who previous won the competition with Brooke Burke, Nicole Scherzinger and Jennifer Grey.
Week 11 Night 1 featured a Judges’ choice, a Samba relay and a Freestyle. The leaderboard looked like this at the end of the trio of routines: Amber & Derek 64, Corbin & Karina 62, Jack & Chery 57 and Bill & Emma 51.
Standup comic Bill Engvall, low man on the totem pole throughout the season, finally reached the end of the line with viewers and was eliminated.
Tuesday night will be the final opportunity for the three remaining pairs to strut their stuff for the judges. One of them will be hoisting the mirror ball trophy before this day is over. It should be interesting and seems like a dead heat right now between Amber and Corbin with Jack as the dark horse. Will his fan base come through?
The semi-final round of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ ended badly Monday night for one celebrity and pro pair and sent four others into the finals.
In a new twist to the competition during Week 10, the remaining couples had to perform two different dance styles to the original version and an acoustic version of the same song.
Joining the judges panel this week was former “bad boy pro” Maksim Chmerkovskiy. His brother Val and his celebrity partner Elizabeth Berkley were eliminated despite their high leaderboard standings throughout the competition..
Leaving at the end of Monday’s show was actress Leah Remini and her pro partner Tony Dovolani.
Competing next week during the finals on November 26 will be ‘Glee’ celeb Amber Riley, former ‘High School Musical’ star Corbin Bleu, reality star Jack Osbourne and comedic actor Bill Engvall — who suffered a painful groin pull several days ago and remains the lowest scoring and most popular contestant in this season’s competition.
Sharon Osbourne was doing the ugly cry as black mascara streamed down her face as she watched Jack perform at an amazingly high level despite having Multiple Sclerosis.
