Indy 500 Results: Helio Castroneves WINS Indianapolis 500 (VIDEO)

Brazilian Indy racer Helio Castroneves won his third Indianapolis 500 title on Sunday, just a month after being found not guilty of federal tax evasion. The pole sitter led qualifying two weeks ago and managed to capitalize on it to secure a 15th Indy 500 win for Roger Penske’s racing team.

Castroneves won the title in 2001 and 2002. Following his first place finish today, ‘Spiderman’ climbed the fence at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to celebrate his victory. He said, “This is incredible. It feels so great to have my life back. I think my tears speak for everything.”

Finishing second was England’s Dan Wheldon and third place went to Danica Patrick, in the best ever Indy 500 finish by a woman. Check out her recent sexy and buff bikini photo on the cover of Shape magazine’s June issue.

Super sexy Indy car driver Danica Patrick graces the cover of Shape magazine’s June 2009 issue. The gorgeous racer shares her ‘get lean fast workout’ and talks about her diet during the racing season.

According to Patrick, her strategy includes eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise. She sticks to a high protein diet with complex carbohydrates when she is competing. The 5′2″ petite brunette weight 105 lbs.

Patrick has appeared in Sports Illustrated, Playboy and FHM and has done photo shoots and commercials for GoDaddy.com.

Danica Patrick Gets Another Speeding Ticket

Apparently Danica Patrick has a lead foot both on and off the track. The 26 year old Scottsdale, Arizona resident has amassed several speeding tickets in the last three years according to court records.

In the latest incident, the IndyCar Series racer was pulled over in her 2007 Mercedes on December 9 after being clocked going 54 mph in a 35 mph zone. She paid a $196 fine in lieu of appearing in traffic court next week.

Last year she was sentenced to attend traffic school after being cited for doing 57 mph in a 40 mph zone. We’re not sure how she fares when she’s not in her hometown but it’s evident the local police aren’t cutting her any slack.

Danica Patrick was hot under the collar after the Saturday morning practice for the Honda Indy 200. The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course was this weeks venue and Danica went gunning for Venezuelan racer and former model Milka Duno after she refused to let faster cars pass her during the practice session.

Patrick was revved up for a hot confrontation when Duno surprised her by snapping a towel repeatedly in her face. This seemed to take the spit fire by surprise and set her back on her heels.

This is the second time recently that Patrick let her temper boil over. The last time was during the Indianapolis 500, when she was stopped by race officials before she could confront driver Ryan Briscoe.

Bob Margolis of Yahoo Sports recently wrote that “Danica’s drama queen theatrics have worn thin.”

The Brickyard will host the Indy 500 on Sunday, May 25th. Danica Patrick will be one of 33 drivers vying for a big win. She is currently enjoying her career high fifth place points ranking following her first victory in Japan in April, making her the first female winner in the history of the Indy Racing League.

Danica, 5′2″ and 100 pounds, has been voted the sport’s most popular driver three years running. The 26 year old is poised to make history again this weekend, and would love to take the traditional swig of milk after winning the sports biggest race. It would be the motor sports story of the year and a spectacular achievement by a woman if Danica wins the race. She will start in fifth position.

Patrick has raced three times at the Brickyard, finishing in 8th spot or better each time. She drives for Andretti Green Racing. Co-owner Kevin Savoree said:

When we considered Danica, we talked about that she could win the Indy 500, and that’s why we hired her. She had a lot of marketability, but we hired her because she could win there.”

How does Patrick excel at a track that is considered among the most technically demanding because of its flat layout, sharp corners and 225-mph speeds? According to Kim Green:

We’ve given her cars even this month that were maybe too unstable, and she doesn’t come back ranting and raving. I’m so impressed with how calm she is.”

Danica is screaming hot right now. She is glamorous and photogenic and has a broad fan base, appealing to kids and their parents. John Griffin, vice president of public relations for the Indy Racing League, said that the week after her victory in Japan, Patrick sold more than $100,000 worth of merchandise.

On Sunday at Noon EST over 300,000 race fans will be on hand to witness the race. Danica doesn’t claim to be psychic but she had this to say about her chances of winning:

I’m not the only one who says it could be my year. But I’ve got a good feeling.”

Danica Patrick of Andretti Green Racing, in her 50th start in the series, won the Bridgestone Indy Japan 300 race on Sunday, April 20, 2008 on the 1.5 mile oval track is at Twin Ring Motegi, northeast of Tokyo. She is the first female to win an IndyCar race. After three years on the circuit, the 26 year old finally got the breakthrough win that has eluded her until now.

Patrick completed the 200 lap race in one hour 51 minutes. Second place went to Helio Castroneves, who won Dancing with the Stars last season with partner Julianne Hough. A New Zealander, Scott Dixon took third place honors.Patrick had this to say about her triumph:

Finally. This is a long time coming. I’ve been asked so many times when I’m going to win my first race, and finally, no more of those questions. I had a lot of opportunities last year that were missed due to bad luck. I can only say I’m just glad it’s over.”

“It was a fuel strategy race, but my team called it perfectly for me. I know I was on the same strategy as Helio and when I passed him for the lead, I couldn’t believe it. This is fabulous. I kind of knew from the start that if we had enough fuel that I was going to have a chance because I was saving fuel from the first lap and nobody else looked like they were. I always said that I wouldn’t do this, but on my last lap I was kind of excited. I was as relieved as I expected I would be years ago, how I knew I would fell when I won my first race.”

Patrick made her IndyCar debut in 2005 after years on European junior formula tours and in the Toyota Atlantic series. Her previous best finish was second place at Detroit last September. The next race will be the RoadRunner Turbo Indy 300 in Kansas in a week.

Danica Patrick is hopping mad and there isn’t anything she can do about it. The Indy racer is highly critical of a new ruling that she feels will penalize her for being 5 ft. 2 in. tall and 100 pounds soaking wet. The 26 year old will have to add weight to her race car to compensate for her lighter size.

The new rule is being set to equalize the playing field. Those who are heavy set may be able to remove some weight from their vehicles. Patrick is only one of two females who race on this particular circuit. She has not yet had a victory in her four seasons. With the potential change to her vehicle, she envisions that it will be just that much more challenging.

The 2008 season will kickoff March 29, under the lights at Homestead-Miami Speedway (8 p.m. ET, ESPN2). The race will be the first since open-wheel racing unified on Feb. 22, moving forward under the banner of the IndyCar Series and the sanctioning of the Indy Racing League.

Patrick is one of 26 cars are entered in the event, making it the first race since 2001 that the season will start with that many cars on the track. It also is the first time since 2003 that a race other than the Indianapolis 500 has featured that many starters. She’s also got a lead foot off the track.

Wisconsin born Indy driver Danica Patrick is sizzling hot in the Sports Illustrated bikini issue. Danica could easily give up racing and start modeling tomorrow. Luckily for all her racing fans she will stick to hanging out in the fast lane.

Patrick who has had her share of discriminating remarks about being a woman in a man’s sport continues on. Starting out her official career in 2005, the 26-year-old has won a few awards to show that she is loved in her sport.
