Twitter exploded last night with claims that ABC News co-anchor Diane Sawyer appeared to be drunk while reporting election results for the network.

The veteran journalist slurred her words at times and leaned on her arms in exaggerated poses that led many to tweet, “a bit tipsy,” “hammered,” “on pain killers, muscle relaxers, benzos or some combination?”

One tweeter quipped, “Bad night for Romney.  Worse night for Diane Sawyer?”  Another joked, “Four more beers! Four more beers! @drunkdianesawyer”

We recall similar claims during the 2008 presidential inauguration coverage with GMA co-host Robin Roberts as they reported after staying up all night covering the various Washington D.C. gala balls.

Arizona congresswoman Gabby Giffords has agreed to be interviewed by ABC news anchor Diane Sawyer, her first televised remarks since being shot in the head on January 8, 2011 in Tucson.

The exclusive prerecorded sit down discussion, set to air on November 14, will include the politician’s husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly.

Not only will Gabby and Mark share details of their year long journey, they will also take the opportunity to hype their new book, Gabby:  A Story of Courage and Hope. Their first combined literary venture will be published the day after the ABC special airs.

Giffords’ office released the first photos of the Democratic politician in June, and she made a surprise appearance on Capitol Hill in August to cast her vote on the debt ceiling bill.

Kelly retired after a 25-year NASA career to assist his wife during her recovery journey.  She continues to undergo daily outpatient rehabilitation near their Houston home to regain her strength and relearn basic skills.

The congresswoman has not yet made a decision about returning to Washington full-time or running for re-election.  During her absence, her staff has been responding to constituent concerns and handling other chores.
