Harrison Ford: Hollywood’s Highest Paid Actor

With the return of Indiana Jones, actor Harrison Ford is cashing in on another blockbuster movie. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull brought in $750 million worldwide last year, proving that his fans still want more.

Over the past year, Harrison took home a staggering $65 million–earning him the title of highest paid actor by Forbes magazine.

Landing in second spot on Forbes list is funnyman Adam Sandler, who had two hit movies last year; Bedtime Stories and Don’t Mess With Zohan. Other Hollywood celebs at the top of the heap are Will Smith, Nicolas Cage and Eddie Murphy. See the Top 100 List here.

Harrison and his girlfriend of seven years, Calista Flockhart, are shown above at the Living Legends Aviation Awards. They became engaged on Valentine’s Day 2009 but have not revealed when they will tie the knot.

Calista Flockhart, 44, and Harrison Ford, 66, are engaged.

According to sources, Ford surprised Flockhart with an engagement ring while on family vacation with son Liam over Valentine’s Day weekend.

Ford, one of Hollywood’s most notoriously private actors, zealously guards his personal life. He has two sons (Benjamin and Willard) with his first wife, Mary Marquardt, as well as two children (Malcolm and Georgia) with his second wife, screenwriter Melissa Mathison.

Calista currently stars in the ABC drama “Brothers and Sisters.”

The couple have been together for over seven years.

Indiana Jones Crystal Skull Opening Weekend Box Office $101 Million

After tepid reviews at the Cannes Film Festival, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was launched in 4,260 theaters and found an eager audience over the Memorial Day weekend. Thursday debut numbers were low at $25 million but things picked up for the weekend with an estimated $101 million, bringing it’s total gross including Thursday to a respectable $126 million.

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, in it’s second weekend in theaters has earned a total of $91 Million. Iron Man, which debuted on May 2, has earned a whopping $252 million for its three week run.
The Steven Spielberg directed movie is the fourth action adventure film in the series made famous by Harrison Ford. After a 19 year break, the 65 year old actor set out to convince audiences that he was still viable as the swashbuckling hero.

According to those in the know, the slumping economy and high gas prices may have put a crimp in the way people spend their money but movie reviewers believe that this doesn’t translate to a slower box office. Most feel that when times get tough people head to the darkened movie theaters to temporarily forget about their own woes.

Harrison Ford has been in a six year relationship with Hollywood actress Calista Flockhart. The couple met at the 2002 Golden Globes when she spilled wine on his award. She has an adopted seven year old son Liam.

The much anticipated Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has it’s star performer, Harrison Ford battling with a group of evil Russians hunting for a lost artifact with supposed psychic powers.

Crystal Skull made it’s debut on Sunday, May 18th at the Cannes Film Festival and according to some who previewed the film, it may not have been worth the 19 year wait.

Ford had this to say about the lackluster acceptance of his latest project:

I’m not afraid at all. I expect to have the whip turned on me. It’s not unusual for something that is popular to be disdained by some people, and I fully expect it. I work for the people who pay to get in. They are my customers, and my focus is on providing the best experience I can for those people.”

The movie has been shrouded in secrecy until it’s weekend unveiling at Cannes. Normally the film would have made the rounds with numerous press screenings but director Steven Spielberg and creator-producer George Lucas opted for the showy splash of the famed film festival to make their big entrance.

Crystal Skull has been so hotly anticipated that it will be virtually immune from critics’ opinions. The film is expected to put up blockbuster box-office numbers when it opens globally Thursday, May 22.

Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford, 65, has revealed to Maxim magazine that he was drunk when he took the leap and got his ear pierced in 1997.

“A semi-drunken lunch date with Ed Bradley and Jimmy Buffet, who were both wearing rings, obviously made an impression. Afterward I walked down Madison Avenue until I found the first jewelry store that pierced ears.”

Ford also expressed his joy in helping long time girlfriend Calista Flockhart, 43, raise her adopted son Liam. He added that she is the best mom in the world. Awww, that is so sweet.

Harrison will be back on the big screen for his next installment of the Indiana Jones series after a nearly 20 year break: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The movie release is set for May 22nd.

Over the last 5 years there has been a lot of talk about a wedding between the two. They are raising Flockhart’s seven year old son Liam. This will be the first marriage for her. Harrison has been wed twice and has four children from the two unions.
