Hugh Jackman shared an interesting tidbit regarding his wife of 17 years, Deborra-Lee Furness. She is seriously “bugged” about the gay rumors that persist about her husband.
The ‘Les Miserables’ actor acknowledged that rumors suggesting that he is secretly gay and their marriage is just for show have caused her a great deal of anxiety.
Jackman told The Hollywood Reporter, “Just recently, it bugs her. She goes, ‘It’s big. It’s everywhere!’”
Hugh, 44, first raised eyebrows when he played an openly gay character in the Broadway musical ‘The Boy From Oz’ ten years ago. He is enjoying a career boost after winning a Golden Globe for his role as Jean Valjean in ‘Les Miserables,’ a role that also earned him a coveted Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
Assisting with ‘gay’ rumor control is X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner, “I’ve seen him with Deborra since the beginning and I’ve been on five movie sets with him and have never seen him stray, have never seen him eye anyone. I met him in 1999. He was genuine, hugely talented. He was in love with his wife that day and still is.”
Furness, 57, gave up her own acting career when she married Hugh, thirteen years her junior. Her working status is about to change according to her husband, “It feels like she needs to get back into it. She needs to act again.”
