Kirstie Alley sitcom gets green light

Kirstie Alley and her ensemble cast impressed executives of the TV Land network with their sitcom pilot and have been given the go-ahead to produce 12-episodes of the series titled ‘Kirstie’s New Show.’

The two-time ‘DWTS’ celeb will play Broadway star Maddie Banks, who finds her life turned upside down when the nerdy adult son she gave up at birth (Eric Petersen) surfaces after his adoptive mother dies.

Her assistant and best friend will be played by former ‘Cheers’ co-star Rhea Perlman and the role of her over-the-top driver went to ‘Seinfeld’ actor Michael Richards.

TV Land president Larry W. Jones said, “This cast is a TV Land dream team of stars.  Seeing them all together is truly mind-blowing.”

Kirstie announced the big news via a YouTube video captioned ‘Kirstie Alley Takes Manhattan — and TV Land!’

Kirstie Alley shared a few fun facts about John Travolta during an interview with Barbara Walters that will air Friday night on 20/20.

While dishing details contained in her new tell-all The Art of Men, the DWTS celeb told Walters, “John is the greatest love of my life.  It took everything I had inside, outside, whatever, to not run off and marry John and be with John for the rest of my life.”

When the journalist inquired about the lingering rumors about Travolta’s sexuality, Kirstie responded: “I know John with all my heart and soul; he’s not gay.”

She went on to explain, “I think in some weird way, in Hollywood, if someone gets big enough and famous enough, and they’re not out doing drugs and they’re not womanizing, what do you say about them?”

Kirstie Alley dropped a bombshell last night during a pre-taped interview with Entertainment Tonight reporter Chris Jacobs.  The actress revealed that she had an affair of the heart with the late Patrick Swayze.

Alley, 61, claims she and Swayze engaged in an “intense emotional affair” while filming the 1985 Civil War mini-series ‘North and South.’

The actor was married at the time to Lisa Niemi, who remained his wife until his death Sept. 14, 2009.  Their union spanned 34 years.

Alley was then married to second husband, actor Parker Stevenson, whom she divorced in 1997.

Kirstie admits that it was not a physical affair, “But again, I think what we did was worse.  Because I think when you fall in love with someone when you’re married, you jeopardize your own marriage and their marriage. It’s doubly bad.”

The ‘DWTS: All-Star’ celeb isn’t sure if Niemi was aware of their strong connection, but she did ask Kirstie to deliver a eulogy at Swayze’s 2009 funeral.

Kirstie told Barbara Walters recently that while filming ‘Look Who’s Talking’ in 1989 with John Travola, she had to fight the urge to run off and marry him.  She claims, “He was the greatest love of my life.”

Why is she suddenly unloading all of these secrets of the heart?  Her new tell-all ‘The Art of Men’ launches today.

During the second week of ‘DWTS: All-Stars’ competition, two returning celebrity contestants have shown that they are clearly out of their league.

Bristol Palin landed at the bottom of the leaderboard with a lowly score of 18 for the evening and Kirstie Alley wasn’t far off that mark with a disappointing 21.

The Wasilla, Alaska native has shown more confidence this go-around but her skills don’t hold a candle to the rest of the field, with the exception of Kirstie, who really looks like a fish out of water this season.

Alley, 61, is suddenly feeling her age.  Last night she lamented, “Three lifetimes of Shawn Johnson is how old I am.”

A look at last night’s leaderboard scores reveals that singer Sabrina Bryan won the night with her super sexy Quickstep routine.  Nipping at her heels were French actor Gilles Marini and Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson:

It seems likely either Bristol or Kirstie will be eliminated tonight.  During their last ‘DWTS’ stints both women relied heavily on their fan base to keep them in the competition well beyond their level of expertise.  Will that happen again?

Other returning celebs who could fall victim this week … Joey Fatone or Drew Lachey.   Judge Len Goodman received boos from the audience when he told the former ‘N Sync singer, “If you can’t dance, then at least entertain us, which is what you did.”

Check out Sabrina’s performance below.  She came dangerously close to a wardrobe malfunction at 1:19 on the slider.  Afterward host Tom Bergeron admitted, “I held my breath a little bit on that one:
