Mario Lopez gets contract extension

It was announced yesterday that half of last season’s ‘X Factor’ co-hosting duo has been invited back for Season 3.  Mario Lopez will become a solo act.

Simon Cowell and his executive team opted to drop Khloe Kardashian–a decision that should come as a surprise to absolutely no-one.  Rumors regarding her show demise have been around since February following her lackluster performance during the last cycle.

Cowell talked about his decision, “Hosting a live show and keeping the judges – especially Demi – in line is not an easy job.  Mario is a pro and we are glad he’s coming back.”

The ‘Extra’ celeb tweeted Monday:

Season 3 will premiere in the Fall, with auditions already underway in L.A., New Orleans, Charleston, Long Island and Denver.

Regarding replacements to fill in for ousted judges Britney Spears and L.A. Reid … that information is still a closely held secret.

Khloe Kardashian out after one season of X Factor

According to the New York Post, reality celeb Khloe Kardashian will not be returning for a second season of ‘X Factor’.

The publication quoted an insider who claims, “They are asking Mario Lopez to come back, but not Khloe.”

One prominent website mockingly speculated that the “awkward” pair were secretly being paid off by rival singing show ‘The Voice’ to foul the water.

Last month FOX exec. Mike Darnell gave a decidedly weak response when asked to critique the season’s X Factor hosts.

The president of Alternative Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting said, “I think the hosts were okay.  I think Mario knows how to be a host.  I think Khloe was new.  And I thought for someone new she did okay.  She never hosted before.”

Season three of X Factor premieres in September 2013.  L.A. Reid and Britney Spears have already been dumped.  Under the circumstances, it seems doubtful that Khloe Kardashian will be given a second chance at hosting.  Stay tuned…

It’s official.  ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ reality star Khloe Kardashian and ‘Extra’ anchor Mario Lopez have signed on to co-host ‘The X Factor’ on Fox network.

Both celebs hit Twitter within minutes of each other to share the good news on social media.

Lopez tweeted, “Alright guys, it’s official… I’ll be hosting @TheXFactorUSA!  Looking forward to working with @SimonCowell and the rest of the amazing team.”

KK fired off a similar message on her blog, “I’m sure you’ve been hearing the rumors and I’m SO excited that I can finally confirm the news–I am joining The X Factor as co-host with Mario Lopez!!!! I’m thrilled, overjoyed and of course a little nervous about this new step in my career, and I can’t wait to get started.  Wish me luck!”

Mario Lopez was transformed by gold paint this week in preparation for a photo shoot to promote a new underwear line.

The ‘Extra’ host, 38, shared the experience on Twitter while touting, “MaLo is all about ‘masculine with an edge.’”

With the Olympics set to kick off at the end of the week, we find it particularly fitting that some of ML’s poses feature him holding a javelin and shot put.

Once bitten, twice shy.  Former Miss USA Ali Landry married Mario Lopez in 2004.  Within a matter of weeks she discovered that her new husband had cheated and she filed for an annulment.

Best known as the ‘Doritos Girl’ from her 1998 Super Bowl commercial, she has moved on and sat down yesterday with talk show host Wendy Williams to talk about her first marriage fiasco and how she has done it differently the second time around.

She revealed, “I had heard something right before the wedding. He swore that it was not true, but I had that feeling in my gut.  All of my family was flying in – it was a destination wedding – and I really should have put the brakes on it at that point, but I was afraid.”

A friend of Ali’s suggested that she tap Mario’s phone.  At first she was hesitant but went ahead with it.  “I was like, ‘I don’t want to tap a phone! I can’t believe I’m doing this.’”

Right after the honeymoon she started listening to calls from women, “I confronted him and he still – to this day – denied it and never apologized. It was horrible.  I was so side-swiped by the whole thing … I never really got angry.”

“I discovered a lot about myself and I’m a better woman because of it.  I met my current husband at a theology class in L.A. – who knew? He was the person I was meant to be with.  Because of the situation I was in before, I was just treading lightly, and did not want to make any mistakes in this relationship.  We abstained from having sex until we got married.”

She wed Alejandro Monteverde in 2006.  They have two children together, Estela, 4, and Marcelo, 5 months.
